Memory of the Narcissus

Hovnanian’s 2007 Memory of the Narcissus series memorializes the narcissus flower, a blossom that withers immediately after if comes into bloom, at the height of its beauty. In the haunting works, Hovnanian layers the flowers in great detail, then wipes away the image and begins again on another layer. The result is a palimpsest of ghostly traces of the narcissus.
